My journey with Tailored Faith Co. began in 2015. It was a God sized dream in the depths of my heart that I would have never discovered had I not dared to ask one question. "God, what can I do?"
A little bit of backstory for you, my church was launching a Building Campaign that would allow us to remodel the building, bring it up to code and expand it in order to reach more people in our community. I made a small pledge to give each month to the building fund, but wanted to do more. My prayer was formed out of a desire to use the gifts and talents God placed in me to do something for the Kingdom of God. I'm a dreamer and I often have so many different ideas in my mind but sometimes have a hard time choosing an idea to act on, or figuring out where to start. So my question was simple. Will you lead me? Show me what I can do to make an impact. I've got dreams, but I'm not sure where or how to begin.
I soon begin to notice this little tug on my heart that wouldn't go away. This little tug kept tugging and the more I dismissed it the stronger it hit my heart. It finally hit me, and I realized that this new idea, this little tug at my heart was the Lord answering my prayer. When I realized that, I got super excited and then the feelings of doubt filled my mind. The Lord was asking me to make a necklace that I would sell and donate the money to the building fund. I never had dreams to make jewelry. I had never made jewelry before and wasn't sure I wanted to. I gave God every excuse I could come up with, and the more excuses I gave, the more He put it on my heart to do it. He brought Ephesians 3:20 to my mind which says:
"God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us."
I could have chose to say no, I'm not doing it. But this verse filled me with so much hope and expectation to see what God had up His sleeve. It showed me that He was answering my prayer; by working in my heart, speaking to me, and inviting me to take a journey with Him. So I finally decided to do it. I still had some doubts, and was unsure if anything significant could come out of this, but if He was giving me an answer to my prayer, how silly would it be for me to say no thank you, I'd rather not. Even if it was scary, it was worth a shot!
I remember sitting on my bedroom floor a few days later, putting together the first necklace I had made, and I felt The Lord whisper to my heart. Two words. Ten Thousand. I knew exactly what it meant and what He was asking me to do and I again thought, there's no way. He gave me the goal of $10,000 to donate to the building fund. In that moment, I saw myself as a 90 year old woman, still making necklaces and donating to the church trying to meet my goal. Doubts and more excuses came like a flood, but once again, Ephesians 3:20 came to mind. I right then promised myself and God that I would do this, no matter how long it would take me to meet that goal.
With a little hard work, many late nights, and lots of prayer, just 2 short years later I met my goal. I am amazed at all that God did in and through my decision to say yes!
Two Thousand Eighteen is going to be an exciting year! God has given me so much vision for Tailored Faith Co. and I am jumping all the way in!
